Specials Introduction

Specials Items greatly affects what a ship does and how it behaves in combat. Specials allow players to take on specific combat roles, such as repairing, tanking, running interference, or dealing even more damage.

Advanced Specials provide large stat bonuses to specific stats, as well as providing large EquipPoint bonuses.

All specials are ship-specific and can be upgraded with Engineering.

Special Items can only be bought from other players on the Auction House or claimed using Reward Points.

Special stats and abilities can be viewed using the Web Tools site.

Deflector

  • Reflects a percentage of attack damage back at an attacker
  • Does NOT reduce the incoming damage
  • Player vs Player only! NPCs are immune to the effects
  • Higher Rarity increases the percentage of damage reflected
  • Reflects STUNs (such as from the Tractor Beam special) back to the attacker
    • NPC Stuns are reflected back to the attacker

Grappling Hook

  • Chance to GRAPPLE anything on any damage (splash included)
  • Moving to another sector will drag grappled targets there as well
  • Dragging can cancel pending Earth Jumps

Nova Device

  • Causes the user to deal massive damage to attackers on death
  • Deals damage equal to 40% + 5% Per Rarity of each attacker's MAX hull
  • Only damages hostile units in sector
  • Fully repairs any other ship (friendly or hostile) with a Nova Device equipped

Prospector

  • Generates additional asteroid harvest opportunities
  • Higher Rarity increases the chance to not deplete an asteroid on harvest
  • Has a percent-chance of giving bonus resource drops from NPC kills

Scout

  • Displays ships in adjacent sectors on the map
  • Only shows ships on the map that move into nearby sectors and will not register stationary ships
    • (Think of Scouts as motion-detectors)
  • Reduces movement cooldown by 0.2 seconds per rarity rank
  • Enemies with Stealth Drives equipped cannot be seen on the map by Scouts under any circumstances
  • However, scouts with a higher rarity rank than an enemy's Stealth Drive will reveal the movement direction of stealthed ships in Events Log

Tank

  • Creates a support-class ship who is tasked with absorbing damage
  • In exchange for sacrificing outgoing damage, the Tank Special dramatically reduces incoming damage
  • It is intended that Planet Engagements require a Tank. Planets will always attack the highest-health target with massive damage
  • Higher Rarity reduces the damage penalty, and reduces incoming damage

Technician

  • Creates a support-class ship who is tasked with repairing a friendly fleet
  • In exchange for sacrificing outgoing damage, the Technician Special dramatically improves all Metal Repairs
  • Higher Rarity reduces the damage penalty, and increases the repair benefit
  • Removes Grapple effects from repaired targets

Tractor Beam

  • Ensnares an attack target by adding extra time to their movement counter and attack counter
    • The Stun duration is: Weapon Attack Speed + Stun Duration Bonuses from equipment.
  • Higher Rarity increases the chance of a STUN attack, and the duration
  • It will not trigger against defensive units (Garrisons, etc.).
  • It will not affect any other behavior such as Repair or Earth Jump.
  • It can trigger on any damage, including multiple SPLASH targets from one attack.
  • The STUN stacks with previous stuns or movement/attack cooldowns from actions.
  • The STUN can be reflected by the Deflector special item

Weird Alien Artifact

  • If equipped, only the WAA loses durability when the player dies (20%)
  • When jettisoned from a player's inventory, ALL players in the current sector are teleported to a random nearby sector. The WAA is also teleported to a random sector.
    • This ability cannot be used in Blue, Grey, and Garrison sectors.
